Adding a second till
Put another computer on the same database.
A second computer shares the main register's database, so both lanes see the same stock and the same prices in real time.
What you need
- The main register switched on and on the same network
- Its address and database password, both shown on its setup screen
- A free till on your plan
If you no longer have the address and password, they are on the main register under settings — network and terminals.
Install
- Run the installer on the new computer.
- Choose Register rather than Main register.
- Enter the main register's address and database password.
- Test the connection, and finish.
That is the whole process. An extra till needs no internet connection of its own and no sign-in to your account — it inherits the subscription from the main register.
Activation will tell you every till is in use and show you the machines, when each was last used, and which is the main register. Release one you no longer have, or add a till to your subscription.
Nothing is released automatically. A machine switched off for a week is not a dead machine, and silently cutting off a working lane would be far worse than one extra screen.
Replacing a computer rather than adding one
If a till has died and you are replacing it, install on the new machine and release the old one from your account — see Plans and billing. The released machine stops working the next time it is started.
If you are moving the main register to a new computer, restore your backup there and, when asked, say that this computer replaces the old one. That transfers the shop rather than creating a second one. Saying "this is a separate shop" instead would use up another outlet on your plan and split your data across two — see Backups.
If a till cannot connect
- Wrong password — each install generates its own; you need the main register's
- Firewall — the main register must accept connections from the shop network
- Different network — a till on guest wifi cannot see a server on the wired network
- "Update the main register first" — the till has a newer version. Restart the main register so it installs its update, then try again. This is deliberate: a till running ahead of the server would be using new code against an old database.
